"Becoming the  best"
by
Jhozua Martinez

Practice, practice, practice!

it'll only improve your status,

If you know how to shoot,

you can always give it a boot,

Make the goal and everyone celebrates,

The opposing team will never know what to anticipate,

As long as you are always improving,

You can constantly keep moving,

Climbing to reach for the top,

Until you can not be stopped.

The basketball player that I long for
Is someone everyone cheers for
Bouncing the ball down the court
Is how he represents Newark tech
He is the best
Out of all the rest
Nobody's like him

As I kick the ball,

I fear missing will be my downfall,

The coach is scolding me

When he saw my injured knee,

But it is no time to doubt,

I need to stay on my route,

I can see the goal,

I must take the shot,

Or my team will be in fraught,

The ball got in!

You run and run

You try and push yourself

You tell yourself you will do better each race

I know it's not easy but I see you try

and that is what matters

I know you get upset when you don’t do good

But remember with time you will get better

You will learn from your mistakes

Practice makes perfect

And you will get your victory

"The love of an athlete"
by
Geneis Rodriguez

Some people walk to their goals,

But athletes run toward them

The countless hours of training,

The missing assignments,

The physical and mental hurt,

They all gradually add together

But yet you still see them on the field

Running with all their might,

Running towards their goals,

Running towards validation

Even so

They’re passionate about their sport

The spark in them is shining on the field

They go wild

A scratch,

A bruise,

An injury,

Are things that become ignored

Due to their ardor

A lot of things affect the life of an athlete,

I’ve seen it happen to a guy from New York,

With the number 6 on his back,

Yet I always see him stay on track

Maybe not with assignments

But at least he follows

What his heart desires,

It’s truly inspirational

Seeing the sweat and hard work he puts in,

Even though he’s tired,

Late at night, he returns home
