On April 19, 2023, I interviewed  Mykel Hymans for the Terrier News.  He has been running track since the 6th grade.  Mykel feels that running is just a part of him naturally.  It was natural for him to join the Newark Tech Track team.  He loves the relaxation of the wind he feels while competing.   He is the junior captain of the Newark Tech Track and Field team and plans on competing in college.

Mykel’s advice  to a novice athlete is to just keep practicing and pushing yourself to reach physical and mental limits.  As an athlete it is important to know and exceed personal and professional limits because  consistent practice leads to perfection.

Coaches and teammates would describe Mykel as a fun and lively person.  As an athlete he faces hardships and challenges while  running competitively. There are days when he feels less confident while  jumping the 400 and 800-meter hurdles but he is determined to give 100%. Mykel realizes that practice and determination are ongoing so that he can continue to  compete on the Essex County Newark Tech Track  and Field team.
