I had the opportunity to interview Lady Terrier Captain Jordyn Mallete. She has been playing since 6th grade which makes her 7 year veteran softball player. Before becoming a lady terrier, she played in middle school. She is a junior and has played softball for since her freshman year. Jordyn Mallete is a phenomenal student-athlete who sets the standard for all around her.
Like with anything in life being a softball player has had its challenges for Jordyn. In her early softball days, Jordyn, unfortunately, faced some racism on her old middle school team. The middle school is not a diverse population which ultimately led to the racism she experienced.
When asked about her hardest season yet was freshman year as a lady terrier. The season was difficult not only because it was her first year but also playing the pitcher position. Jordyn was new to the picture position. However, as records showed she persevered through this and has since become a tremendous pitcher with over 100 strikeouts in her 3-year-long high school career.
Being such an outstanding athlete, I believe that there are things we all stand to learn from her. As a captain, she loves to uplift and lead others. She even offered pieces of advice for upcoming athletes. She stated that it is important to watch the sport, ask questions, and practice. She also believes in the importance of confidence and the need to keep striving when playing a sport. Once again Jordyn is an excellent young scholar- athlete, who is described as kind, and lovable by all around her and it was a pleasure to interview her.
