Xianna Mungroo-NT '24 shared some of her experiences as a first time player on the Essex County Schools of Technology Flag Football team.
Ms. Mungroo's responses are listed below:
1.What do you like about the game?
I like the competition portion of the game. I am very competitive. I like being on the field getting a rush of adrenaline to beat the opponent.
2.What is your position ?
I play wide receiver on offense and defensive lineman on defense.
3.Do you want to keep playing in college?
I am undecided about whether I want to play in college or not, but it is a thought.
4. What is your advice for a novice athlete?
My advice would be to play your hardest no matter what happens. A lot of novice athletes get discouraged and give up but playing your best even when the odds are against you is never unnoticed.
5. What advice do you have for other athletes on how to improve or get better in their sport ?
The only way to get better is to practice. If you work hard on and off the field, your efforts will pay off.
6. How would your coaches and teammates describe you?
My coaches and teammates would probably describe me as a leader who encourages the team and who is passionate about the sport.
7. What hardships or challenges did you face during your time playing this sport?
One of the season's biggest challenges has been making sure our team does not feel divided because we come from two different schools. The Essex Technology Schools of Technology Flag Football team is a combination of Payne Tech and Newark Tech students.
8. How long have you been playing the sport?
This is my first year ever playing football and it has been a fun learning experience.
9. How many games do you usually play in one season? How many games have you played/won?
There are usually about 6-10 games in a season. We have played four games and we are on our way to our first victory.
