What do you like about the game?
“I like the relief basketball gives me; basketball allows me to escape temporarily. I thrive off the dopamine this game provides, which motivates me, win or lose, to keep going. This game subconsciously does so much for me that words can’t fully describe.”
What is your position?
“For this current team, I play the 3(Small forward) and 4 (Power forward), but traditionally I play the 1(Point guard) and 2 (Shooting guard).”
What is your advice for a novice athlete?
“Work harder yet smarter, always remember why you started playing in the first place, and through all the hard work, don’t lose sight of the fun in the sport.”
What advice do you have for other athletes on how to improve or get better in their sport ?
“Stay disciplined and consistent. You don’t immediately see results, so keep working hard. Amid that, take care of your body, get a trainer, someone who can consistently evaluate your game.“
How would your coaches and teammates describe you?
“As the glue, I balance the team. The team meshes well because of the energy I bring, my unselfishness, and my dominance as a leader.”
What hardships or challenges did you face while playing basketball?
“Constant self-doubt, lack of confidence. I have played for so many different coaches and struggled to find a situation that best fit me during that time. But most of my challenges came off the court, granted I went through a lot at such a young age, which at times, interfered with my basketball career. But with my resilience and support system, I just keep going.”
How long have you been playing?
Have you been playing since before ninth grade.My mom put a ball in my hands at three years old, but I didn’t get competitive until 6-7th grade.”
How many games do you usually play in one season? How many games have you played/won? “There’s usually about 20 games in the regular season, but as of right now, we are 9-2 as a team.”
